Administrators called for Curran Court and Bodega

Well-known Larne hotel, The Curran Court and the town’s La Bodega Bar have both been placed into administration.

The 33-bedroom hotel on the Redlands Road, which is owned and run by Crawford Leitch, has traded in the coastal town since the early 70s. It originally opened its doors at a site on the Curran Road before moving to its present location.

More than 70 staff employed between the hotel and La Bodega on Point Street will be affected by the news, which broke at the end of July.

Ernst & Young has been appointed to handle the administration process. Tom McDonald from the firm’s Belfast office recently told LCN that no further statements were available beyond the initial announcement,

A spokesperson for the Curran Court Hotel Group recently revealed that the first thing staff knew of problems in the business was when the administrators arrived at hotel reception to say that the bank had foreclosed on the building loan:

“It was such a shock as this is a good business which has been trading well and we were about to celebrate 41 years in business in Larne this August,” said the spokesperson. “The staff are our priority but they are all devastated and in shock.

“Everybody is devastated, the management as well as staff, but hopefully we can get through this. It’s a good going concern which gives hope for the future.”
