George Best-themed hotel for Belfast
A hotel developer with plans for a George Best-themed venue in Manchester has revealed that he hopes to open a similar property in Belfast.
Lawrence Kenwright, founder of Signature Living, said on Friday that he hopes to have chosen a suitable location in the city for the new hotel by the middle of next week, although he admitted that recent growth in the sector here was making it more difficult to secure the ideal property.
Signature Living opened a luxury hotel in Liverpool in 2015 themed around iconic Liverpool FC manager, Bill Shankly. That venue is regularly listed among the city’s best hotels. In building it, Signature Living had the support and collaboration of the Shankly family and it is understood that George Best’s family are also behind the plans for hotels themed around the legendary Belfast-born footballer.
Speaking about the proposed Manchester hotel, Mr Kenwright said recently that the company was already searching for a location and was keen to hear from anyone with ideas:
“We will be collaborating with the Best family on this special project and are looking forward to delivering this once we find an appropriate venue to create the hotel,” he added.
“It will include a restaurant and museum space dedicated to the footballing success of this giant of the beautiful game.
“I personally am incredibly excited about the prospect of bringing a George Best hotel to Manchester. It will be a tourist destination in its own right and will add a different dimension to Manchester’s burgeoning tourism offer.”
