Green’s Pizzeria chasing expansion approval

Green’s Pizzeria on the Lisburn Road has applied for planning permission for an expansion that would mean 10 new jobs at the famous local outlet and an increased seating capacity from 30 to 50 diners.

The plans, which are currently before Belfast City Council for approval, would see the pizzeria almost double in size as it takes over the ground floor of the adjacent building, which was formerly an estate agent’s office.

Co-owner of the business, Will Clark said recently that one of the biggest advantages of the new development will be the introduction of a bathroom downstairs at the restaurant:

“We thought we needed to come into the 21st century, that’s very important for us, but it’s been very difficult to expand the current premises, so when the opportunity to take on next door came up, it was perfect,” added Will.

The popular pizzeria will celebrate its 30th year in business next year, after opening as ‘Pizza The Action’ in 1988. At the time, it was the first pizzeria in the Lisburn Road area although nowadays, there are many more. There is also a second Green’s outlet in Ballyhackamore in the east of the city.

The competition includes a branch of Pizza Express right next door, although Will said that he wasn’t bothered about the proximity of his rival:

“They have a different market and a different marketing strategy,” he added. “Customers know that we are a local company and I think a lot of people like to support the local one.”
