New ‘multi-cultural’ eatery opens in Belfast

Another brand new restaurant has opened its doors in the centre of Belfast, creating 25 new full and part-time positions.

The 130-seat Maze is described by its founder, Michael Karan, as “multi-cultural”. Located at Wellington Place – in premises once occupied by the famous Carlton Grill – it offers a fusion of Asian, Indian and Continental cuisine.

Michael hopes that the all-encompassing approach of his new eatery will bring it universal appeal:

“Our aim is to become part of the fabric of Belfast life, a place where you can come for breakfast and lunch or enjoy sumptuous dinners with wine and cocktails in the evenings,” he told LCN. “We will be open non-stop from 8am until late to suit people’s increasingly varied and busy lifestyles.”

The restaurant boasts a lava-stone grill, which will be used to make the venue’s speciality – charred, Argentinian-style, spiral cut steaks with chimichurri sauce.

Head chef, Marcus Diego has worked in restaurants around the world and among the other chefs at the venue is Jainal Abedin, who was head chef at the Bengal Brasserie for more than 17 years.

Restaurant manager, Ramy Lorenzo, said that he hoped Maze would be a magnet for Belfast’s foodie community:

“This is a place that will be attractive to people of all cultures,” he added. I have been in hundreds of restaurants around the world and I think this place will be special.”
