New steak and seafood restaurant for Belfast

Belfast brothers Daniel and Martin Courtney are getting ready to bring a new eating experience to the Belfast restaurant scene.

Stix and Stones, a steak and seafood restaurant , is set to open in Belfast city centre in May. It will introduce a style of eating already popular across the world – cooking on a stone. The restaurant, which will be located on Upper Queen Street, will create up to 20 new and part-time jobs and includes an investment of £250k.

The Courtney brothers have a combined experience of almost 20 years in the restaurant industry in Belfast and Dublin and have worked with some of Ireland’s best-known restaurateurs. The restaurant, which is aiming to be opened in time to join in Belfast City’s celebrations of the Giro d’Italia, will have a relaxed, contemporary ambience and feature locally quarried stone in the decor.

It will seat up to 134 people and food, where possible, will be locally sourced say its owners. Steak dishes will be served or cooked by the customer on a stone with advice and encouragement provided by the chefs and staff. While some of the seafood dishes will be presented on sticks for sharing.

Daniel Courtney, part owner and head chef of Stix and Stones, said that he and his brother were very excited about the new venture:

“Not only are we delighted to be setting up a business in our home town but we are delighted to be in a position to compliment the fantastic Belfast restaurant scene with the world popular steak-on-a-stone eating experience,” he added. “To ensure that customers get the full benefit of the stone cooking experience, Martin, myself and the staff will be on-hand to give any necessary guidance. We look forward to providing a top quality service with prices that won’t hurt the pocket.”
