Norwegian Air to re-establish US link

Norwegian Air is to re-establish a link between Belfast and the US that was lost in January when United Airlines withdrew its New York connection.

It is understood that the low-cost carrier will introduce services from Belfast International Airport to airports near New York and Boston, starting this summer.

Belfast International has been in talks with the airline for months as it works to find a replacement for the Belfast to Newark route which was said to be unprofitable.

The same carrier is expected to announce new transatlantic services from Dublin and Cork verysoon.

The flights from Belfast International will land at Stewart International Airport, which is 70 miles from New York and TF Green Airport, which is 60 miles from Boston.

Bjorn Kjos, the chief executive of Norwegian, has previously said that flying from Ireland to America should cost from around $300 to $350 return.
